On and off the court in Australia

After qualifying to the main draw of the Traralgon J1 Junior tournament, Daniella played Eva Lys, a German girl ranked 88 in the world, a match she lost 6-0 7-5, with great chances to turn the match around in the 2nd set. It wasn’t meant to be and we then prepared for the Australian Open, for which the qualifying draw started on January 22nd, the day after Daniella’s 18th birthday.

In tennis we often talk about the “luck of the draw” and it wasn’t the best of birthday presents for Daniella as she was drawn against the 1st seed, the Chinese Zongyu Li, ranked 70 in the world, a 3h15 min. match she lost 5-7 6-4 5-7. Great effort but, unfortunately, it wasn’t enough... Tennis can be a cruel sport sometimes.

This early exit allowed us to spend some time sightseeing, including a very sweet moment at the Healsville sanctuary. We also went to Melbourne to watch the best in the game at Melbourne Park, meeting some familiar faces (great to see you Miso and Roman!). The next day, it was back to training to prepare for next week’s 25K Launceston in Tasmania.
